A few things you might not know about sleep!
Here are four tips to help you get the best sleep possible.
1. The best quality of sleep we can get is between 10pm and 6am. This applies to all of us as human beings – we’re just designed this way! So if you are missing out on these particular hours and sleeping for several hours outside this timeframe you are short-changing yourself.
2. Exercise during the day tells our body and brain to restore themselves better during sleep. We then end up with more energy the following day.
3. Using screens (e.g. phones, laptops) close to bedtime actually signals to our brain that it’s time to wake up. Our brain then fails to release melatonin (a hormone which makes us sleepy). Less melatonin = less sleepiness = harder to get to sleep = poorer quality of sleep.
4. Our brains become conditioned to do certain things in certain spaces. So if we spend lots of time on our bed chatting, working on our laptop, eating, watching movies, then our brain comes to expect these things when we go to our bed for sleep!
So……the best way to get an awesome night sleep and wake up filled with energy is: Exercise during the day, put your screens away by 930pm, get to bed by 10pm, and only use bed for sleeping.
